Built In-House at Our Chatsworth Workshop
Custom Crating & Shipping Services
Stratton and Sons builds custom wooden crates on-site at our Chatsworth facility for fragile, oversized, and high-value items. From a grandfather clock to a gallery-bound sculpture, every crate is designed and constructed specifically for the item it protects — because off-the-shelf solutions don't work for one-of-a-kind possessions.
Purpose-Built Protection
Our crating team assesses each item's dimensions, weight, fragility, and transport conditions before building. Crates are constructed from heat-treated lumber to ISPM-15 standards (required for international shipments) with interior foam cushioning, corner braces, and vibration dampening. Paintings and mirrors get float-pack suspension systems that prevent glass-to-crate contact. Heavy items like marble sculptures receive reinforced pallets with lifting points for safe crane or forklift handling.
What We Crate
Our shop handles artwork and framed pieces of any size, antique furniture and musical instruments, marble and bronze sculptures, chandeliers and lighting fixtures, wine collections, medical and scientific equipment, electronics and servers, and estate items for auction or insurance. If it's valuable and fragile, we've likely crated something similar in our 50+ years.
Shipping Coordination
Beyond building the crate, we coordinate the shipping — whether it's a local white-glove delivery in our own trucks, a cross-country shipment via common carrier, or an international ocean freight consignment. We have experienced partners that assist with bills of lading, insurance documentation, and tracking. Items can be picked up from your location, crated at our shop, and shipped — or we can build crates on-site at your home or gallery.
